Welcome To Kamp Kaleo
One of the biggest gifts that we can give to our children and youth is an investment in their spiritual lives. Through small group Bible study, meeting new friends, living in cabins, sharing meals, worship, exploring nature, and play, summer church camp offers a unique opportunity for learning and developing healthy relationships with our Creator and with each other.
Established in 1965, Kamp Kaleo is a place set aside to encounter God in nature and in community. The camping program is overseen by the Youth and Outdoor Ministries Committee (YOMC) of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska and the Nebraska Conference of the United Church of Christ.
The Youth and Outdoor Ministries Committee mission statement is: Inspired by God’s Spirit, we seek to create radically inclusive spaces and places for faith exploration.
You are invited to explore and experience your faith at Kamp Kaleo!
Safety & Care at Kamp Kaleo
At Kamp Kaleo, your child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities. Every program, activity, and cabin experience is built around one central promise: that each camper is cared for physically, emotionally, and spiritually in a community that welcomes and celebrates them just as they are.
Kamp Kaleo is proudly accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), the gold standard for camp safety and quality. ACA accreditation means that we meet or exceed hundreds of standards in areas like health and wellness, emergency preparedness, food safety, staff training, and program design. Every year, we review our policies and procedures to ensure that we continue to uphold these high standards.
Our counselors and staff are carefully selected for their character, compassion, and commitment to creating a safe, nurturing environment. All staff complete comprehensive background checks and receive extensive training in areas such as:
-
Camper supervision and child development
-
Emergency response and first aid/CPR certification
-
Inclusivity, anti-bullying, and trauma-informed care
-
Water and adventure safety
Our ratio of counselors to campers ensures that every child is known by name, encouraged, and supported throughout their time at camp.
At Kaleo, inclusivity isn’t an initiative, it’s our identity. We welcome campers of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities. Our programs are intentionally designed so that every camper feels seen, safe, and valued. From our gender-inclusive housing options to staff trained in creating affirming spaces, we work to ensure that every camper can be their authentic self and thrive within our camp community.
Our Health Center is staffed by qualified medical personnel who oversee medication management, minor injuries, and camper wellness. We maintain close communication with parents and guardians regarding any health concerns. Meals are planned with dietary needs in mind, and our kitchen team is experienced in accommodating allergies and restrictions safely.
We know that sending your child to camp is an act of trust. That’s why we stay in communication with families throughout the camp session, ensuring you’re informed and confident in the care your child receives. From pre-camp orientations to clear contact policies, we’re here to partner with you every step of the way.
