CIT Rules and Expectations
From their arrival on the property before the camp begins to their departure after the camp has concluded, CITs are subject to the following rules and expectations:
-
CITs are generally subject to the rules and expectations for Counselors. The rules and expectations specific to CITs take precedence over the rules and expectations for Counselors.
-
CITs are counselors, not campers.
-
CITs will assist two other Counselors in leading a family group. The Director of Transformational Programming or Camp Director may assign CITs to assist with specific tasks. Outside of family groups and specific assigned tasks, the CITs are generally expected to assist staff.
-
CITs will meet with the Director of Transformational Programming daily to evaluate their performance, answer questions, and provide guidance.
-
CITs shall never be alone with any number of campers.
-
CITs shall not leave Kamp Kaleo during the camp program except for scheduled program outings as approved by the Director of Transformational Programming.
-
CITs are expected to use their phone or other electronic devices sparingly and only use them in the presence of campers as necessary for communication with staff. The Executive Director may grant a medical exemption to this rule pursuant to Kamp Kaleo’s Cell Phone & Electronic Device Technology Policy. Upon violation of this rule or the terms of an exemption, the following consequences shall apply:
-
First Offense: Verbal warning
-
Second Offense: Confiscation of device(s) for a period defined by the Director of Transformational Programming or Executive Director. If the CIT has a medical exemption, an alternative consequence shall be at the discretion of the Director of Transformational Programming or Executive Director.
-
Third Offense: Significant infraction, see rule 9
-
-
If a CIT has driven their own car to Kamp Kaleo, they shall turn in their keys to the Executive Director, who will return them at the end of the camp program. If a CIT is dropped off at Kamp Kaleo by someone else, the person dropping the CIT off must follow the camper drop-off and pickup procedures for the CIT.
-
For significant infractions of these rules or the rules and expectations of Counselors, the Executive Director may ask the CIT to leave Kamp Kaleo before the end of the camp program. If the CIT did not drive themselves to Kamp Kaleo, the Executive Director shall contact a parent or guardian to arrange transportation for the CIT and may restrict the CIT to certain areas until they can be picked up.
